If you believe you already “understand” what democracy is, you are unfortunately wrong. The current standard view is that democracy is some thrown-together mixture of: “the three branches of government, the will of the people, some bill of rights, a little rule of law, knowing how a bill becomes a law, and perhaps acknowledging that citizens have responsibilities as well as rights.” This is a high school understanding of democracy, at best, and most of us never get much beyond that. 

What this course offers—for people with democratic personalities—is an adult version of democracy. This version is mutidimensional, deeply nuanced, history-based, and ultimately, more inspirational. That is to say, the adult version is much more worth fighting for.  

Hence, if you are a “traditionalist” or a democracy dilettante, this course is not for you. This is a serious course for serious people who want to explore if serious change is possible.
